Alpaca Fleece Show
Carolina Alpaca Breeders and Owners and Carolina FiberFest are pleased to co-sponsor the first Alpaca Fleece show for CFF.
Fleeces may be entered in three categories: for sale only, for sale
and judging, and for judging only.
Debbie Myers will serve as judge. She hails from Loris, South Carolina, where she and husband George own Sunny Skies Alpaca Farm. Debbie is an Apprentice Sorter in
the Certified Sort System, in line with international sorting rules.
To qualify as an Apprentice Sorter, she attended four days of classes and passed a written exam with a score of 80% or better.
At the apprentice level Debbie will sort 250 fleeces of which 50 must be suri. Her results will be verified by a mentor (Certified Sorter).
To reach Certified Sorter, Debbie must complete four NC State University education modules on the textile industry, followed by a four-day refresher course and complete a written test and a practical test. Once certified, Debbie will be required to annually maintain her accreditation.
Debbie has sorted more than 150 fleeces and is actively working toward becoming a Certified Sorter. Her goal is to be certified by the end of 2012.
